The death sentences for Ehsan Hosseinipour Hesarloo, Matin Mohammadi, and Erfan Amiri, three citizens aged 17 and 18 who were arrested during the January protests, have been upheld by the Supreme Court and referred to the implementation office. With the confirmation of these sentences and their referral, these three individuals are now at imminent risk of execution.
The Committee for the Follow-up of Detainees stated that Ehsan Hosseinipour Hesarloo, Matin Mohammadi, and Erfan Amiri were arrested in connection with the fire at a mosque in Pakdasht. In the Tehran Revolutionary Court, they faced charges including “acting against national security,” “assembly and collusion against national security,” “participation in the murder of two people,” “intentional arson of the Seyyed al-Shohada Mosque in Pakdasht,” and “destruction of public property.”
Mizan News Agency, the media outlet affiliated with the judiciary, had previously reported that these three citizens were identified as the “principal elements” in the attack and arson of the Seyyed al-Shohada Mosque in Pakdasht County. According to the report, they caused the deaths of two individuals named Ali-Akbar [Zarei] and Taha [Azizikhah], who were trapped on the lower floor of the mosque during the fire. This incident occurred during the protests on January 8, 2026.
During the court session, the prosecutor’s representative accused these three citizens of “effective presence in the protests,” “assembly and collusion against national security,” “participation in murder,” “intentional arson of the Seyyed al-Shohada Mosque,” and “possession of cold weapons and incendiary materials,” citing confessions obtained from the defendants and reports from security agents as evidence.
Additionally, according to Mizan News Agency, the families of the two deceased individuals requested the maximum punishment and qisas, or retribution in kind, for the defendants during the court session.
